Our History
In 1998, Student Action with Farmworkers, a farmworker advocacy organization based in Durham, North Carolina, launched National Farmworker Awareness Week to uplift the stories and struggles of farmworkers, their families and communities across the country. What started as a student-led effort in North Carolina has grown into a nationwide movement. Each year, during the last week of March, several organizations host events leading up to Cesar Chavez Day (March 31) to educate, advocate and uplift farmworkers.
Behind Every Bite builds on the success of National Farmworker Awareness Week and creates a monthlong celebration honoring the contributions of farmworkers and a year-round effort to raise awareness and participation in supporting farmworker communities.
